The Ilium Suite 402 - River view Luxury Studio in Downtown Troy

This unique, light-filled apartment in the heart of Troy made for a comfortable weekend stay. Restaurants, RPI, coffeehouses, the farmers market, bookstores, everything you would want to visit is in walking distance. In the beautiful historic building, the materials used in the renovated apartment were higher quality than expected, and the space overall was larger than it looks in photographs because of the high ceiling. Do wear the provided fresh pair of earplugs for the best sleep, as there is a bus stop and active city nightlife right outside your window.

I spent two nights in the suite as a getaway hideout to do some writing and computer work, and the Ilium was the perfect place to do it. The high ceilings, modern bathroom with tub (with the best shower head I’ve ever experienced), the exquisite bedsheets, espresso maker, framed TV with all the streaming apps, and the multiple seating areas made every minute I spent in there pleasurable. Highly recommended.

Perfect location. Walkable to most of the great restaurants and bars. Super clean and modern. Very responsive hosts. There is a great bar with a diverse/ fun crowd and events on the first floor.

The property itself was excellent - very clean and nice, check in was easy, and the owner was very responsive. The biggest drawback was the area, which felt very unsafe to be walking around in and leaving a car overnight. Parking was an issue, as the listing cited “parking available” but that turned out to be parking on the street or in a garage a short distance away. Some of the town signs were not very clear, and my daughter’s car ended up getting towed, resulting in travel difficulties and added expense. I certainly don’t lay these concerns on the property owner, but things that are important to know before coming to the area. Again, the space itself was excellent and the building secure, but the surrounding variables are important to keep in mind.
